TRI CLOVER FITTINGS

Tri Clover Fittings (the original brand name) are also commonly referred to as Tri Clamp Fittings or Clover Clamps. They are a sub-set of the Sanitary Fittings group of products. These are polished fittings designed for use in conditions where a smooth finish mitigates against contamination. A Tri Clover connection provides a secure, leak proof connection and easy to clean. They can be cleaned in place and are quick to set-up and take down. For these reasons they are used extensively in the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries. The Tri Clover range also include Tri Clover Ball Valves, manufactured in high grade Stainless Steel 304. Tri-Clovers are also available in Stainless Steel 316.

HOW TO SIZE CLOVER CLAMPS AND FITTINGS

A Tri Clamp or Tri Clover connection set-up comprises 4 fittings; 2 Tri Clover flange-ends held in place by a Clamp and a Gasket for sealing.

  • Tri Clamp sizing is can be determined by measuring the outside diameter (OD) of the Flange-End itself and refering to the table below.
    • The diameter of the Flange-End is about ½” (15mm) wider than the Tube OD.
      • For example, the 2” Tri-Clover Tube OD has a Flange-End size of 2.5”.
      • Note 1: The 1/2" and 3/4" Tri Clamp fittings have the same Flange-End sizes. In Tri Clamp sizing both are 3/4" Tri Clamps.
      • Note 2: The 1" and 1-1/2" Tri Clamps have the same Flange-End size. In Tri Clamp sizing both are 1-1/2" Tri Clamps.

For the most part the only measurement required is the outside diameter of the tube as this will be the same size of the Tri Clamp that you require. For further clarification, please see the Tri Clamp Sizing Table below:

Although a 1/2” and 3/4” Tri Clamps will connect with each other as will the 1” and 1 1/2”, it is important to note that the internal diameters will differ (see Table above). It is incumbent upon the user to determine whether the mixing and matching of sizes will be suitable for their application.

The most popular Tri Clamp sizes used by breweries and in home brewing are the 1” and 1 1/2” sizes. Both have the same flange-end sizes as indicated above and can interconnect with each other. As an example, a 1 1/2” Tri Clamp Ball Valve will connect with a 1” Ferrule.
