- A Reducing Bush is a pipe fitting with external male threads and smaller internal female threads on the inside of the bushing.
Uses:
- A threaded reducer bushing, also referred to as a reducing bush, is used to reduce or increase a pipe thread size.
- It works through accommodating pipe ends of different diameters.
- They are often used to reduce the size of a female threaded opening to a smaller size.
- Can be used to connect two pipes of different sizes.
Advantages:
- Space saving, particularly when compared to a Bell Reducer.
Installation:
- To decrease the size of a female BSP thread, thread the external male BSP threads of the bushing into the female BSP thread.
- To increase the size of a male BSP thread, thread the internal female BSP thread onto the smaller sized male BSP thread.
Size Classification:
- These threaded bushings are classified according to larger male thread on the outside and by the smaller female threads on the inside.
- Usually the size of the pipe thread end will also corresponds to this size.
- For example: a 1" x 3/4" Bushing will have a 1" external male pipe thread and 3/4" internal female pipe thread.
